Linear Squared introduces world’s first AI capacity planning software

by Daily FT|

The company claims the solution, Capacity Squared, to be the world’s first AI-driven production planning software.

The process of capacity planning on a shopfloor has always been manual, which consumes more time and is prone to human errors and biases. In unforeseeable situations like delay of raw materials, missed targets, etc., sometimes even the well-planned schedule runs on low efficiency. Thus, the solution lies in the optimisation of the planning schedule without expanding the factory by adding new machinery or hiring labour.

Addressing big business problems

by Duruthu | Sunday Times | July 15, 2018

Suddenly machines can execute tasks that once needed human cognition.

In the past, computers could execute only the rigidly defined tasks for which they were programmed. Now they can be given a general strategy for learning, enabling them to adapt to new data without being explicitly reprogrammed. This is mainly done through big data and advanced analytics (Machine Learning and Deep Learning) which isn’t freely available.

Linear Squared is determined to change that. A start-up that was born after its founders recognised a massive void in big data and advanced analytics solutions that exist in the market, it has made long strides.

READYING FOR SRI LANKA’S BIG DATA DELUGE

by By Devan Daniel | Echelon | Oct 10, 2015

Sri Lanka is yet to encounter Big Data but it will happen soon. Many companies don’t appreciate the data they do generate or have access to. Data analytics here is an out-layer industry. It’s only a matter of time till the floodgates open. The early birds will have a clear advantage like the banks, telcos, insurance and retail companies, which already generate and collect large amounts of data. Big Data will also help small businesses which, despite lacking the expertise and the technology, will be able to take on the established giants. Governments will be able to streamline public transport, improve disaster management and healthcare.
